Public morning trips depart at 8 AM and return at Noon. Public afternoon trips depart at 1 PM and return at sunset, about5:30 PM. We can also customize the time and location of a private sailing experience to meet your needs.
What should we bring on the trip?
You should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a towel, your camera and tips for our courteous crew are greatly appreciated ($8 - $16 per person is standard).
What is included in the trip?
All of our trips include an open bar with a wide assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, delicious fresh food, kayaks, and great music.
Where do we meet to go on the tour?
Our meeting place is on the beach in front of Restaurant El Pescador. El Pescador is about 100 meters south of the "circle" that is the center of Tamarindo. (see map)
What about transportation and parking?
We can provide pick-up and drop-off service at no charge if you are staying in Langosta. If you are staying in Tamarindo it is a short beach walk to the boat launch site. If you are staying outside of these locations we can assist with arranging transportation at the current market rate. There is parking at the boat launch site; however, during the high season the parking area may be full.
What if I go on the snorkel sail but I don't want to snorkel?
That's fine. We also have kayaks and other floats for you to enjoy in the water, or feel free to just stay on board and relax with a cold drink.
What do we do if it rains?
In light rain, we will most likely sail. Most of the green season has rain showers that only last a little while and then the sun returns. In the case of a thunderstorm or heavy rain showers at the time of departure, the trip will be cancelled.
How do I make a reservation?
To make a reservation call or email us to inquire about availability. Upon confirmation of availability you can: • Book on our website on the Tours page. On the web page after you input your credit card information please indicate your tour date. If a private tour, also include number of guests in the Special Instructions section. OR • Book by phone or email, we’ll need your credit card information to reserve your spot.
Reservations are not confirmed until payment has been made.
What is the cancellation policy?
~ Full refunds for cancellation made 48 hours or more prior to trip departure.
~ 50% charge for cancellations within 48 to 24 hours of trip departure.
~ 100% charge for cancellation within 24 hours of trip departure and no-shows.
Where do you go for snorkeling and what can we expect to see?
Depending on weather conditions, we usually go to Playa Carbon, Playa Conejo or Pirates Bay. Depending on water conditions, which are constantly changing, we often see schools of tropical fish, puffer fish and sometimes rays. We also spot green turtles, leatherback turtles, moray eels and both manta and eagle rays. It is also possible to spot dolphins and whales from the boat.
How many people go on the boat?
We can take up to 40 passengers but usually limit ourselves to around 35 people to ensure that everyone has plenty of room.
Can we just show up at the launch site and go on the tour?
No. We prepare fresh food every day based on the number of reservations. You can reserve anytime but during high season we are usually full so it is best to reserve your trip well in advance.
Can we rent the whole boat?
Yes! We do a lot of private day charters (crewed only, we don’t do bareboat rentals) and can accommodate groups of up to 40 passengers. A private charter is perfect for corporate events, families, wedding groups, birthday parties or just when you want to do something special. The cost of a private charter depends on the number of passengers, length of charter, and time of day. Contact us and we will be happy to put together a customized trip to suit your needs.
Do you sail from locations other than Tamarindo?
Yes, we can do private charters departing and/or returning to other locations including Conchal, Flamingo, Coco, Papagayo. Our public tours depart from and return to Tamarindo.
Is smoking allowed?
Smoking and drug use are not allowed on the boat. Should you violate this rule you are subject to being returned to shore prior to the completion of the trip without a refund.
Will I get wet?
Yes, you will get wet. There is no pier so we bring our launch boat to the shore where you’ll wade out in the surf to about your knees to board the launch boat which will take you to the Blue Dolphin.
What type of music is played onboard?
We play a variety of music but primarily Latin dance music, some American pop and classic rock. On private charters feel free to bring your ipod and we can play your music.
